homework!

 投稿者:red  投稿日:2005年 6月 1日(水)10時32分56秒
As we cancelled yesterday's class, we'll have the next class on June 7th (next Tuesday). I assume both of you already finished reading the Poe's Valdemar and Barker's chapter1. So, I will give you additional homework for "Growing Up".

1) Write a summary of Chapter 1 (one paragraph, about 200 words). A summary could be in the present tense or the past tense. Please include the basic information (= Who, Where, What happened, etc.)
2) Choose 5 words from the chapter that you want to remember or that you think are important. Make 5 vocabulary cards and bring them next class.

Enjoy!

  1) Read "THE FACTS IN THE CASE OF M. VALDEMAR" by Edgar Allan Poe; http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/poe/works/valdemar.html

2) Quickly read through Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado" again. Think about why the narrator killed Fortunato. Come up with at least three situations, circumustances, and/or reasons under which humans (=we) might have an idea of killing other person. Use your imagination flexibly! You don't need to relate the situations to the Poe's story. On a piece of paper, write down these situations as concrete as possible. Bring it to the next class. We'll have a discussion and watch DVD of this story.

3) Begin reading the first chapter of Barker's "Growing Up".

We'll have a special meeting on Saturday and the next class will be on May 31st.
See you then.

Purple, are your gold fishes getting well? and Moegi, I would like to see that chest which attracts you so deeply. By the way, how mucy was that???
I just finished my first class today and it seems a very good class (if compared with the zoo classes that I taught previous few semesters). I wish this continue throughout the summer.

I am OK, too

When we went to used funitures shop last Saturday, we bought old chest. It was just one that I imaged and the cost was as same as I had in my mind. I was taken by the chest and I gazed it with raputures everyday.

I am OK

By the way,I noticed my gold fishes were sick this morning. According to net dictionary, it is Hakutenbyou spreds easily. I was unsettled. I went to pets shop near Kasimada Station to buy the medicine for our gold fishes twice. A very kind salesperson told me how to keep gold fish. I felt easy.

I think we decided to have the next class on May 15th. However, I might take a class (on Teaching Japanese) which will be on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer session. So could we get togather on 24th & 31st (both Tuesday)?

By the way, I didn't assign you any homework. How about reading Poe?

Dear Members,

Thank you very much for supporting the charity concert.
Here is an article (a bit old) about Rattlesnake Annie from Japan Times:

As homework for the spring break, I would like you to read about Native Americans, their history, thier rich culture and traditions, and thier life in the past and present. This is a good place to begin your research:
http://www.pbs.org/itvs/homeland/index.html

What did the Europeans do for the Native Indians?
What is the Treaty of 1851? Homestead Act? Massacre at Sand Creek?
What is the Reservation? How was the life there in the past? How is it now?
What are the Lakota Ways?

You may also want to find the other resources over the Internet.

Enjoy the exploration and hope to see you on April 29th!

Homework

As we decided a moment ago, the class will meet next Tuesday (April 5th) again. In addition to reading and listening to the different versions of fairy tales, please read the following short story by Kate Chopin, which deals with the relationship between husband and wife. (Our favorite theme, isn't it?)

Enjoy!
